Team KAIST is composed of two subgroups, one is the KAIST Humanoid Robot Research Center (Hubo Lab) and other is Rainbow Co. The Hubo Lab developed the first humanoid robot in Korea, named Hubo. In 2011, alumni from the Hubo Lab established Rainbow Co in order to commercialize the Hubo robot and supply it to other laboratories. Overall Team KAIST includes 4 Doctors, 9 Doctor candidates, 3 Master candidates and 2 undergraduates.
We were not satisfied with the results from the 2013 DRC trials, and we faced many problems. We are now working to overcome these problems, with focuses on preparation for unexpected situations, improved reliability of sensors, and walking on uneven terrain.
The Hubo Lab. is working on both redesigning the DRC-HUBO and motion planning for the different scenarios. Rainbow Co. is manufacturing a new DRC-HUBO, designing software for control of the robot, developing improved algorithms for uneven terrain, and optimizing the placement of sensors for the new DRC-HUBO.
